Rayudu’s decision to retire came after he was snubbed for the 2019 World Cup twice.Rayudu was a stand-by player in case any of the batsmen got injured in the ongoing World Cup in England. However, India called in Rishabh Pant after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out with a fractured thumb and then replaced all-rounder Vijay Shankar with opening batsman Mayank Agarwal.Rayudu announced his retirement from all forms of cricket with an immediate effect on Wednesday. In his letter, Rayudu said it was an honour to play for India and thanked MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.Rayudu played under MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings and Rohit Sharma in Mumbai Indians. Kohli was Rayudu’s India captain.In his letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rayudu said, “I would like to bring to your kind notice that I have come to decision to step away from the sport and retire from all forms and levels of the game. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the bcci and all the state associations that I have represented which include Hyderabad, Baroda, Andhra and Vidharbha.””I also would like to thank the two IPL franchises MI and CSK for their support. It has been a honour and privilege to have represented our country.””I would like to thank the captains I have played under, MS Dhoni, Rohit sharma and especially Virat Kohli who always had shown great belief in me throughout my career with the Indian team.”advertisement”It has been a wonderful journey of playing the sport and learning from every up and down it brought up on for the last 25 years at various different levels. Finally I would like to thank my family and all the wellwishers who have been with me throughout this wonderful journey.”Rayudu was not included in India’s original 15-member squad for the World Cup 2019 and all-rounder Vijay Shankar was preferred over him. Chief selector MSK Prasad had stated that Shankar’s 3-dimensional qualities made them pick him over Rayudu.Ambati Rayudu played 55 ODIs for India, scoring 1694 runs at an average of 47.05 with three hundreds and 10 half-centuries.
