New Delhi: A gang of unidentified thieves cleared an unguarded ATM in South Delhi’s Maidan Garhi area and fled away with the money.The robbers cut open the machine with a gas cutter before fleeing with the cash. Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation is going on. According to police, the incident came to light on 7.30 am on Sunday when they were alerted by a person regarding the robbery at the ATM. The police team reached the spot which was in Asola area of South Delhi. They found that ATM was opened and the CCTV was painted black. Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Atul Thakur, elaborating more about the incident, stated that at the time of the incident, there was no guard present at the ATM. They have registered a case in this regard. Reports were coming that the accused fled with more than three lakh rupees. “We are yet to ascertain about the robbed money as the company has not informed us,” added DCP Thakur. It seems that the gang may have performed a recce of the area around the machine before targeting it. It is being suspected that no customer came to withdraw money at the time, especially because it was late in the night and the shutter might have been downed by the gang. “The investigation is going from several angles,” said an officer, privy to the investigation. Senior officials inspected the spot and a team has been formed to nab the accused. “We have questioned a few people. Soon the case will be cracked,” police said.
