first_imgWhile we have been a little busy with the India launch of Oppo F9 Pro, the company is simultaneously gearing up to launch the Oppo R17. The R-series has typically offered upper mid-range, premium affordable range of phones that have also served as inspiration for OnePlus phones as well. The R17 will be announced soon, but we won’t have to wait until then to know what the device will bring as it has already been listed on the company’s official Chinese website. The listing confirms the design of the Oppo R17 as well as some of the specs. The phone will indeed bring an edge-to-edge display with a unique water droplet-like notch that will also be seen on the Oppo F9 Pro. The notch indeed looks different to the kinds we have seen so far and is more close to what the Essential Phone brings. The R17 will brings a tall 6.4-inch FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio, Gorilla Glass 6 protection and a 91.5 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The Oppo R17 will sport a glass back with a gradient colour design in Streamer Blue and Neon Purple options. There’s also no physical fingerprint sensor, which means the phone will offer an in-display sensor that will unlock the device in 0.41 seconds. A cheaper variant is expected with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The R17 will be power an octa-core Snapdragon chipset, but it’s still unknown whether this will be a Snapdragon 670 or Snapdragon 710 chipset. The phone will also be offered with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.advertisementThe dual cameras on the back will include a 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor with LED flash. Housed in the notch on the front will be a 25-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera will also support AI portrait mode and other selfie-centric features. A 3,500mAh battery will be housed inside the Oppo R17 and the device will support VOOC fast charging. The phone will run Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1 out-of-the-box and will include connectivity options like Bluetooth 5.0, dual 4G VoLTE and dual SIM support, among other things. The Oppo R17 is up for pre-orders in China and the device is expected to go on sale starting August 18 which is when Oppo will also announce its pricing. We also expect an Oppo R17 Pro in the offing, but there has been no listing or mention of it on the website as yet. Separately, Oppo will also be launching the F9 Pro in India on August 21. The device bears similar design elements as the R17 including a waterdrop screen and gradient colour design. The company has also confirmed a 25MP front facing camera and VOOC fast charging support.
