Teens nabbed with 9kg cocaine in gas cylinder

first_imgA youth cricketer and his girlfriend were on Sunday arrested after more than nine kilograms of cocaine were discovered in a house at Delph Avenue, Campbellville, Georgetown.The cocaine blocks concealed in the gas cylinderBased on reports received, ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) swooped down on the house and conducted a search of the premises, unearthing nine well wrapped rectangular packages hidden in a cooking gas cylinder that had a false bottom.The house, Guyana Times understands, belongs to a well-known drug dealer with whom the cricketer is presently employed. According to well-placed source, the businessman had previous brushes with the law.However, after the discovery of the cocaine was made, the teenagers were taken to CANU Headquarters where the illegal drug was weighed and amounted to more than 20 pounds. The teens are reportedly cooperating with members of the drug enforcement unit.Only a few months ago, race car driver, Nazim Gafoor; ace rider, Steven Vieira; and two others were charged in connection with the recent discovery of $550 million worth of cocaine in dressed lumber at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.On May 12, 2017, members of CANU swooped down on a lumber yard at Lot 227 Zeelugt, where they conducted a search on a truck that was laden with several pallets of 1×6 dressed lumber that was being prepared for export to the UnitedThe well wrapped rectangular blocks of cocaine found at the Delph Avenue homeStates.Some 85 kilos (187 pounds) of cocaine, with a street value of $550 million, was found concealed in some of the lumber. During the search, several boards were reportedly drilled randomly, and a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine was detected. The truck was escorted to CANU headquarters, where the lumber was further examined, and it was discovered that each of the compromised boards had a dugout cavity that held vacuum-sealed plastic packets containing cocaine paste.However, Nazim Gafoor and Stephen Vieira were initially remanded to prison but were subsequently granted bail by the High Court, while Sherwayne De Abreu and Tazim Gafoor remain in the lockups.last_img read more
