Citation: Apple’s iPad Vs Lenovo’s IdeaPad U1Hybrid Notebook (w/ Video) (2010, January 28) retrieved 18 August 2019 from https://phys.org/news/2010-01-apple-ipad-lenovo-ideapad-u1hybrid.html The iPad has no multitasking capabilities which can be counter-productive; how can you copy and paste between two application? This is a basic requirement that is even available in some smartphones. No Flash support. Many websites use flash for video streaming as well as movie content providers like Hulu, Fancast, and others. The screen ratio is 4:3 and is not HD ready. The screen itself displays 132 ppi as compared to the iPhone’s 163 ppi. This leaves much to be desired when viewing streaming video. The good news is the iPad has optional keyboard dock, camera connection kit and an Apple-designed case; all of which will raise the basic cost.In the 2010 CES, Lenovo announced their IdeaPad U1Hybrid Notebook. This device has unique detach-and-converge design that lets users easily remove the screen to instantly switch from clamshell mode to a multi-touch slate tablet. Lenovo’s amazing Tablet/PC Hybrid brings a tablet and a PC together in an amazingly elegant way. It’s a tablet. It’s a notebook computer. In the clamshell mode the ideaPad runs Windows 7 Home Edition and when detached, in the tablet mode, runs Skylight OS. Skylight OS is a custom user interface by Lenovo built on top of the Linux kernel. Since both OS’s support Adobe Flash there’s no problems watching flash multimedia in clamshell or tablet mode. Both operating systems also provide users with a wide range of existing applications that are not found in the iPad except for existing iPhone apps.Of course these are not the only two touch tablets that we will see in 2010. This year we can see completion heating up between eReaders and touch tablets. The winner will have to be a device that is both innovative and affordable. After the announcement of Typescript 2.9 RC back in May, Microsoft’s TypeScript team came out with the release candidate of TypeScript 3.0 last week, unveiling features such as project references, extracting and spreading parameter lists with tuples, a new unknown type and API breaking changes among others. Let’s discuss the highlights of TypeScript 3.0 RC release. Project Reference functionality It allows TypeScript projects to depend on other TypeScript projects. Once these dependencies have been specified in the tsconfig.json file, you can easily split your code into smaller projects. It also provides TypeScript (and tools around it) a way to understand build ordering and output structure. Extracting and spreading parameter lists using tuples This functionality helps with reducing the overloading amount for functions of varied parameter lengths. Also, there is no need to write different overloads to support functions with different number of parameters. TypeScript 3.0 allows to better model scenarios like these by allowing rest parameters to be generic, and concluding those generics as tuple types. This, in turn, demands for richer tuple types to model scenarios such as optional parameters at the end of a parameter list, a final parameter which can be a rest parameter along with empty parameter lists. A new ‘unknown’ type Apart from these features, the new unknown type feature can accommodate APIs that uses variable of any value but requires type checking. Support for the JSX defaultProps There is also support for the JSX defaultProps used in React. These defaultProps allow the developers to define default values for props during creation of a component, such as a source for an Image component. TypeScript 3.0 RC also supports a new type alias called LibraryManagedAttributes in the JSX namespace. LibraryManagedAttributes is just a helper type that tells TypeScript what attributes a JSX tag accepts. Using this general type helps model React’s specific behavior for things such as defaultProps and propTypes. Apart from these features, there are API breaking changes API Breaking Changes The internal method LanguageService#getSourceFile is removed, after being deprecated for two years. The function TypeChecker#getSymbolDisplayBuilder and its associated interfaces are removed. The deprecated functions escapeIdentifier and unescapeIdentifier are removed. TypeScript 3.0 release is scheduled for sometime later this month. For more information on the latest TypeScript 3.0 RC release, check out the official Microsoft Blog. NEW YORK — If your clients are fresh out of ideas on where to travel to in 2017, Frommer’s – which will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year – has revealed its annual list of the best places to travel.A team of award-winning editors and writers around the world has compiled an honour roll list of top vacation places. Whether these destinations are enjoying a resurgence, honouring a milestone or anniversary, or simply because the moment is ripe for wider appreciation, they’re all primed and ready for travellers to visit in 2017.The 17 honourees are (in no particular order):• Montréal, Quebec, for the confluence of celebrations surrounding its 375th birthday and the 150th anniversary of Canada• Karasjok, Norway, the best place in the world for Northern Lights during a peak year for that phenomenon• Bermuda, amidst a boom in development of its luxury tourism amenities and expecting the America’s Cup in May and June• The Pantanal, South America’s massive and wondrous inland tropical wetlandsMore news: Apply now for AQSC’s agent cruise rates• The Mississippi River, long called “the Spine of America,” bursting with a fast-growing cruise industry• Paris, France, because its tourism has dropped in the past year, but it remains as magical as ever• Sulawesi, Indonesia, an under-appreciated island of tiny monkeys, vibrantly colored birds, and astonishing cultural rituals• San Francisco and the Bay Area, which marks the 50th anniversary of the famous Summer of Love with a bounty of events• Fátima, Portugal, commemorating the centenary of its miracle and vibrant with history, architecture and beaches• Nashville, Tennessee, for its food, whip-smart population, music, and ideal location for viewing the August 21 solar eclipse• The Panama Canal, newly expanded with a more-than-$5 billion set of locks• Nan Madol, Micronesia, because its ancient black basalt temples and palaces are in danger of imminent destruction by natural forces• Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, the only region where you can see mountain gorillas in the wild, and where tourism is transforming lifeMore news: Help Princess Cruises break the world record for largest vow renewal at sea• Martin Luther’s Germany which will spend the year mounting concerts and events for the 500th anniversary of the reformer’s world-changing deed• Katahdin Woods and Waters, Maine, 87,000 pristine acres of forests and streams just inscribed as a National Monument• Haida Gwaii, British Columbia, a recent holiday spot for Prince William and Kate, for its unique wilderness and centuries old cultural links• Doha, Qatar, which is challenging its flashier neighbors Dubai and Abu Dhabi with new attractions, flights, and hotelsThere is one bonus destination that Frommer’s felt compelled to include – Cuba. Frommer’s is not confident Cuba will remain an option for Americans. Donald J. Trump is threatening to restrict Americans’ right to travel there, hotel rates are ballooning, flights are being cut, and the death of Fidel Castro raises new uncertainties. For those reasons, Frommer’s inscribed it—with hope that travel remains open and growing—as its 18th top destination.
