Arsenal getting deals for David Luiz and Kieran Tierney over the line will make them akin to the Harlem Globetrotters in 2019-20, says Perry Grove, with the Gunners having their best transfer window for “10 or 15 years”.Suggestions at the end of last season that a quiet summer lay in store for those at Emirates Stadium have been blown out of the water.Talk of a £40 million ($48m) budget has been rubbished in style, with a club-record £72m ($87m) deal done for highly-rated forward Nicolas Pepe . Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare Messi a man for all Champions League seasons – but will this really be Barcelona’s? Arsenal have also acquired talented teenager Gabriel Martinelli , while taking Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid and landing Willian Saliba with one eye on the future. It could be that the deadline passes with Luiz and Tierney also in north London, with the Gunners closing in on two more agreements , and Groves believes the former will prove to be a shrewd addition despite concerns over the Brazilian’s flamboyant playing style. He told talkSPORT : “I’ve watched David Luiz many times when I’ve done co-commentary, and I’ve always said I love watching him play, but wouldn’t want him in my team, because he’s always got a mistake in him.“But now he’s coming to the Gooners, I’m actually really excited because he’s better than any of the centre-halves we’ve got and he will bring massive personality to Arsenal.“He’ll also bring leadership, he’ll take responsibility and he’s a winner. He’s won a title in every country he’s played in, in Portugal, England and France, he’s won the Champions League, Europa League and Confederations Cup.“His concentration levels have got better and I think he’ll be a lot better if you put someone disciplined in front of him, like [N’golo] Kante and Jorginho at Chelsea.“I agree he’s got mistakes in him, but Unai Emery wants his centre-backs to play out from the back and what David Luiz brings is an unbelievable passing range.“He can ping 60 or 70 yard balls, so if you’ve got the pace of [Nicolas] Pepe, [Alexandre] Lacazette and [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, he can pick them out.”Groves added, with the Gunners looking to hand Unai Emery a star-studded squad for the upcoming campaign: “If I read out an Arsenal team which could start the first game of the season: Leno; Bellerin, Luiz, Sokratis, Tierney; Ceballos, Xhaka, Torreira; Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang.“That’s going to be like watching the Harlem Globetrotters!“I can’t help but be excited. There was all that doom and gloom about Arsenal not having any money and how are we going to compete, but if all these transfers come off, that means Arsenal would have spent £138m – that’s not bad for a club that is supposed to be skint!“As a fan, and I reckon the Arsenal supporters will be thinking this as well, this is the best transfer window they’ve had for a good 10 or 15 years“It’s our most exciting transfer window by a long, long way.”
CHAPEL HILL, NC – OCTOBER 07: Ian Book #12 of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish rolls out against the North Carolina Tar Heels during the game at Kenan Stadium on October 7, 2017 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)Notre Dame fans can finally breathe easy about Ian Book’s status for this week’s game. The sophomore signal caller will be on the field as usual.Rumors that Book was to be suspended for some sort of academic issue were flying on social media yesterday. They seemed dubious at best and were shot down by multiple reports, but the Irish fan base was understandably worked up.This afternoon, Brian Kelly made things official: Book will start at quarterback on Saturday against Pittsburgh. It seems like Book isn’t under any threat of suspension, and if he is going to get in trouble for something, it won’t be this week.Ian Book will start at quarterback against Pittsburgh, per Brian Kelly. So there’s that.— Pete Sampson (@PeteSampson_) October 9, 2018Book will be making his fourth-straight start for the Fighting Irish. He has played stellar football this season, completing 77-of-105 passes for 887 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. The Fighting Irish would be better set up than most schools if Book did ever miss time, as current backup Brandon Wimbush is 13-3 as a starter. Wimbush started the first three games of the year before giving way to Book. However, considering how well Book is playing, it looks like Notre Dame’s ceiling is much higher with him taking snaps.Ranked No. 5 in the AP Poll, Notre Dame will take on Pitt at home on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
EAST LANSING, MI – OCTOBER 29: Head coach Jim Harbaugh Michigan Wolverines shakes hands with head coach Mark Dantonio of the Michigan State Spartans after a 32-23 Michigan win at Spartan Stadium on October 29, 2016 in East Lansing, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)One of the marquee games of this week’s college football schedule will be the annual Michigan-Michigan State rivalry game. The Wolverines (6-1) need a win to have any hope of competing for the Big Ten title, let alone a spot in the College Football Playoffs. But the Spartans (4-2) have consistently proven to be a match for Jim Harbaugh’s side.Ahead of this week’s edition of College Gamday, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbtreit made his prediction for the big game. And Herbstreit is going with Michigan.“They’re starting to peak at the right time,” Herbstreit said, according to 247Sports.com. “A lot of people watched their game a week ago. I had their game against Wisconsin. Jim Harbaugh, I think, finally has a quarterback. That’s the reality…”Michigan have nearly double Michigan State’s wins in the rivalry, with a 69-36-5 record. However, Spartans head coach Mark Dantonio has helped his team dominate the rivalry under his watch.Since 2008, Dantonio’s second year at the helm, the Spartans have won eight of ten editions of the annual game against the Wolverines.

I’m still working towards what I want to be. That’s why I want to make sure I make the right choice and get this right.”It’s unclear what kind of timeline Bryant is working on when it comes to a decision. Stay tuned.
LAWRENCE, KS – AUGUST 30: Memorial Stadium empties after the game between the University of Kansas Jayhawks and the Northwestern University Wildcats on August 30, 2003 in Lawrence, Kansas. Northwestern defeated Kansas 28-20. (Photo by Dave Kaup/Getty Images)A major college football analyst is facing some criticism for what he said about Kansas’ decision to hire former LSU head coach Les Miles. The Jayhawks and the former Tigers’ head coach agreed to a deal on Friday, according to multiple reports. Miles has been out of coaching since he got fired by LSU, but he’s been very interested in getting back on the sideline. Kansas is giving him the opportunity to do that.Noted college football analyst Stewart Mandel is not a fan of the hire, though.Still astounding to me that so many people think this is a good idea. https://t.co/6tnEWYuZwx— Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) November 16, 2018Mandel is facing some criticism for this thought, though.ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, for example, questioned Mandel’s logic when it comes to criticizing the hire:“It bad because why? They’ve had two 10 win seasons in more than 100 years. He had 7 at LSU. If he makes them interesting, it’s a win,” he tweeted. It bad because why? MIAMI, FL – DECEMBER 29: Kyler Murray #1 of the Oklahoma Sooners reacts in the fourth quarter during the College Football Playoff Semifinal against the Alabama Crimson Tide at the Capital One Orange Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium on December 29, 2018 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray declared for the NFL Draft on Monday, as the Heisman Trophy winner said he was fully committed toward becoming an elite professional QB that will compete for championships.“Moving forward, I am firmly and fully committing my life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback,” Murray tweeted. “Football has been my love and passion my entire life. I was raised to play QB and I very much look forward to dedicating 100 percent of myself to being the best QB possible and winning NFL championships.”The Murray saga might not be over just yet, though. The Oakland A’s, who took Murray in the top 10 of last year’s MLB Draft, are not giving up hope.Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic is reporting that the A’s still believe Murray could end up choosing baseball and they haven’t given up on him.The A’s have reportedly received “conflicting signals” from Murray and they “believe Murray’s statement was crafted by his football agent, Erik Burkhardt of Select Sports Group, to demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the NFL—the kind of commitment NFL teams wanted to hear.”There are now some within the NFL who believe Murray could go back and choose baseball if he ends up not loving his landing spot within the league.“Prescient point from one GM last night: Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray has power to dictate his draft spot like no one since Eli Manning. If he so desires, Murray can tell a team primed to draft him, “Don’t bother, I’ll play baseball.” Adds a fascinating dynamic,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport tweeted.Prescient point from one GM last night: #Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray has power to dictate his draft spot like no one since Eli Manning. BOCA RATON, FL – SEPTEMBER 1: Head coach Lane Kiffin of the Florida Atlantic Owls throws the ball prior to the game against the Navy Midshipmen on September 1, 2017 at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida. (Photo by Joel Auerbach/Getty Images)A new tweet from Florida Atlantic University head football coach Lane Kiffin is going viral on social media. Of course, this isn’t surprising. Few in college football are better at getting people to react to their tweets than the FAU head coach.Kiffin, 43, has developed a habit of “inviting” famous people to come down to his school. “Come to theFAU he tweets.”He did it again on Tuesday.Kiffin is inviting Jennifer Aniston to come down to Boca Raton, Florida. The former Friends star celebrated her 50th birthday this week. Perhaps she’ll take a birthday trip down to FAU.“Happy birthday Jennifer come to #thefaU,” he tweeted.Happy birthday Jennifer come to #thefaU https://t.co/mLwOU1LBT9— Lane Kiffin (@Lane_Kiffin) February 12, 2019Well played, Lane. Well played. This response to his tweet might be even better, though: pic.twitter.com/fYxyNVDKqr— Matty D (@MDietrich_7) February 12, 2019Yes, it’s probably highly unlikely that Jennifer Aniston will decide to make a trip down to FAU to watch the Owls play in a game. Maybe she has a home in South Florida and will want to stop by, though. You never know.
ATLANTA, GEORGIA – AUGUST 31: Head coach Nick Saban of the Alabama Crimson Tide walks the field during pregame warmups prior to facing the Duke Blue Devils at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 31, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum doesn’t think Nick Saban is being entirely truthful about Jalen Hurts’ debut at Oklahoma on Sunday night.Saban said he was happy to hear to Hurts played well in his first game with the Sooners, though he claimed that he didn’t watch any of the game.“I didn’t see the game last night, we work on Sunday nights,” Saban told reporters on Monday. “But I hear he played extremely well and did an outstanding job, and that doesn’t surprise me in the least bit.”“We’re really happy for him, not only in the way he handled himself throughout this entire process but now that he’s having success, as well.” Finebaum appeared on SportsCenter on Tuesday morning and outlined why he thinks Saban might be fibbing.“It’s very predictable that Nick Saban never sees anything or hears anything,” Finebaum said, per 247Sports’ Brad Crawford. “It’s funny, a couple years ago, the morning of the election, he didn’t realize today was election day. The whole country (did). I think he probably saw it.“I’ve been to that facility in Tuscaloosa. There are televisions everywhere and something tells me that the only game in the country going on was probably on the television.“I just don’t think he didn’t want to admit the obvious that Jalen Hurts is doing extraordinarily well. Remember the back story that Jalen was a two-year starter at Alabama and took Alabama to the national championship game and then was replaced by Tua (Tagovailoa). Lost his job and came on and saved the day in the SEC title game.Nick Saban is always playing games. That’s why he’s Nick Saban.”That’s not an unbelievable theory.A lot of people were watching Hurts, of course, including several current and former Alabama players.Hurts has vaulted to the top of the Heisman Trophy race with his Week 1 performance. Tua Tagovailoa is right there, too.Perhaps Saban will get a first-hand look at Hurts and Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.
